Eastern FB Hosts South Oldham in Home Opener
Friday will be a great day at Eastern HS as the Eagles take the home field for the first time in 2019. In addition to kicking off the home football schedule Friday’s game will offer many reasons for fans, alumni, and community members to come and celebrate.
Honoring Colonel Schneider
Eastern will honor long-time Eastern ROTC teacher, Colonel David Schneider, with a dedication of the new flagpole at the football stadium. Colonel Schneider dedicated his life to service and offered so much of that time of service at Eastern HS. He served as a mentor, teacher, coach, and friend to thousands of students and colleagues over more than two decades of service at Eastern.
The brand new flagpole and flag at the football field will be dedicated in memorial to Colonel Schneider before the game tonight. Before kick-off there will be a special dedication ceremony. Those wishing to honor the life and contributions of Colonel should meet just outside the stadium (near Eagle’s Pass) around 6:20 pm. There will be a short dedication to the honor Colonel’s life and contributions at Eastern before the flag is raised and the national anthem is celebrated.
Eagle Football invites Alumni to participate in new, pregame tradition
The football program always designates the home opener as Alumni Night and welcomes back alumni for the game. This year they have invited alumni to participate in their new “Touch the Banner” Tradition. If you are planning on attending Alumni Night this Friday August 30th, the EHS Football Boosters would like to invite you to participate in the new tradition of Touch the Banner which happens a few minutes before kick-off. Alumni will form the tunnel where players will run through before they run under the banner and onto the field.
Interested alumni should meet the boosters near the merchandise tents around 6:45 or directly after the flagpole dedication ceremony. It’d be awesome to have some legends from the past come and welcome this years Eastern Eagles to the field.
Upgrades Galore at the Renovated Stadium
Over the last year our football boosters, athletic department, and school administration have made a huge commitment to upgrading our home field. Last fall a new concessions and restroom building opened for the final game of the season, but this year will serve Eagle fans all fall long.
As discussed above, a new flagpole will be dedicated to the legacy of Colonel Schneider.
The field finally retired the old uprights and a beautiful new pair will welcome field goals and extra points this fall. The scoreboard, thanks to some great team sponsors, has been upgraded. New fencing, as a part of the track renovation, will also surround the field.
All in all, the facility is looking better than it ever has before and with a new season and a beautiful evening projected it will be a great time to come and catch the Eagles!
Students will Kick-off the home season with a Tropical Theme
The always creative Eastern Spirit club and student section have declared a “Tropical-Out” for the game. Students are encouraged to come to the game themed for the Tropics! Our Eastern Student Section is renowned for loud and proud support of our Eagles, and they always have lots of fun in the process.
All Eastern students are encouraged to join the theme with a few important reminders from the Eastern administration:
