Eastern Athletics Summer Upgrades

School’s out for the summer at Eastern, but Eastern Athletics is not resting.

Of course, Eastern’s athletes and coaches are working hard to get better for the 2018-2019 seasons but that isn’t all.

Campus Improvements

This summer will be a huge one for campus improvements and they have already begun.

The first improvement is not terribly exciting but very important.  We’ve added almost 50 additional parking spaces off Hite School Road near the Jim Sexton athletic complex to provide more parking on campus.

Another nice improvement will be an upgraded scoreboard at the Soccer & Lacrosse field.  The brand new scoreboard already has legs in the ground and should be completed any day now.  The new Daktronics scoreboard will be a huge upgrade for athletes and fans during fall Soccer season and spring Lax.

The two biggest improvements will reflect a massive upgrade to our Main Stadium on campus.  George Morrison Field has relied on Porta-Potties at all home athletic contests for the last 15 years, but relief is nearly here.  This summer Eastern is building a desperately needed Restroom, Concessions, and Storage Building.  The facility will meet a huge need on campus that will be appreciated by students, athletes, and fans attending football and track events in the future!

Construction has begun to build the new building and here is some of the exciting progress from the last few weeks.

The final upgrade will be a massive renovation to the Eastern Track and Field Facility.  The venue is in dire need of upgrades.  The current venue is wrought with cracks in the running surface and has also never been converted from 440yds to 400m.  The renovation project is tagged around $400,000 has been a huge fundraising effort from the Eastern Track Boosters for two and a half years.  The project was recently approved by the Jefferson County Board of Education and construction should begin this early this month.  The program is still taking donations and any amount can help make the facility a reality on campus this summer.
