Girls Regional Recap
On Monday January 29th our Eastern Girls’ Bowling Team did something remarkable. The Eastern Girls entered the Region 4 Team Tournament with a record 3-5. They were seeded 5th of the 9 girls’ teams in the region. In addition to being an underdog from the start the team also entered the tournament undermanned, with only 5 girls of the 8 team members able to bowl at regionals. The team started the tournament facing one of the favorites to win the tournament, the #2 seed Brown. The Lady Eagles took the best of 5 series, 3 games to none to start their magical run.
In the next round, they took on the 3rd seed Sacred Heart, again our girls from Eastern stepped up! After dropping the first game. The Eagles rallied, taking the next 3 games. Assuring Eastern Bowling, its first team qualification to the KHSAA state finals. In the final round, where both teams had already earned state championship qualification, the girls faced the 4th seed Male who had earlier shocked the #1 seed Manual.
The ladies were in the finals going after the Region 4 Championship Title. The Lady Eagles dropped game one, then took game two. But then dropped games three and four. The underdog Eagles finished second in the regional tournament, bringing home the Regional Runner-Up Trophy!
The girls have advanced to the state tournament and on February 9th at 8AM at Executive Lanes in Louisville the ladies will be competing for the State Championship. Our Eastern Girls will be one of the top 16 teams in Kentucky. Bowling with the chance to be State Champions!
Making this story even more remarkable is that in the early season the Lady Eagles Bowlers were in a position to have to forfeit their season. The team nearly had to withdraw from the Crimson Tournament and potentially all of their remaining tournaments because they did not have enough players to post a scoring team. The team and Coach Blanton looked for help. Coach did a recruiting pitch to several classes at Eastern and found 5 new interested bowlers. Four of those five girls that joined the team to simply fill in the gap at that weekend’s tournament stayed with it, continued with the team, and improved!! Those ladies won three of the last six matches at the regional tournament and now are going to the state championship!
Boys Regional Recap
Last Monday 1/22, Eastern’s Boys Bowling Team went into the regional team tournament finishing the season 7 of the 13 boys teams, with a record of 4-6. The Boys qualified as the 6 Seed. Facing the 11th seed Atherton. Eastern won the best of 5 match 3 games to 2. Thus, having to face the 3 seed Seneca (who ended up our regional Champs). Our boys lost that match 3 to 2. Placing the boys 6th in region 4, and ending their season.
