Eagles News · Cheer starts competition season strong

The Cheerleader’s first competition of the season was the Eastside cheer challenge on November 4th located at Bullitt East High School. The team started off the competition season strong with a first place win in in the small varsity division. This was our seniors (Amaya Warnell, Jordan Marion, Claire Dzan) and junior Nicole Hineman’s 3rd consecutive win at this annual competition.

On Saturday November 11th the team headed to Lexington, Kentucky to compete at UCA Bluegrass Regionals in hopes of winning a championship and a bid to the 2018 nationals cheerleading competition in Orlando Florida. With 6 reigning national champions at this competition, this qualifying event is one of the hardest in the country. The Eagle Cheerleaders rose to the occasion by winning first place in small varsity division 1 and receiving a bid to the 2018 National High School Competition. After over 10 years of attending this event this year’s team was the first ever to receive first place at this competition! This is the second of two record breaking program accomplishments that the 3 seniors listed above and junior have been a part of; the first was in 2016 when they were a part of the first ever eastern team to attend UCA nationals in Orlando and placed 8th in the nation.

The next few weeks the team will be working hard to prepare for the KHSAA Regional competition. They are hoping to defend their KHSAA region 7 small champion title and return to the state competition.
