Coed Varsity Cross Country · XC Ready for Regional Championship

The cross country teams compete this weekend in the regional championships at Seneca Park this Saturday.

The boys and girls cross country teams are in their final preparations for the regional championship XC meet this Saturday (10/28) at Seneca Park.  The state’s #3-ranked boys are scheduled to race at 2:00pm and the state’s #5 ranked girls are scheduled to race at 2:45pm.

Both teams face great competition as they aim to qualify for the state championship and battle for both team and individual regional honors.  The boys were regional runners up a year ago and will face #2 ranked Trinity, the defending regional champions.  The girls will face 3 of the top 6 teams in KY as they duke it out with #2 Oldham Co., #4 Assumption, and #6 Sacred Heart.  The girls team is one of the most improved teams in KY this year and looks to qualify for the state meet for the first time since 2013.

Eastern’s Homecoming King, Sam Ackerman, and Mr. Eastern, Emerson Wells, both look to contend for the individual regional championship but will face great competition from rivals Trinity and a deep field of individual contenders.  Senior Sam Wood, Juniors Alex Geoghegan and Mason Wood, along with Sophomores Andrew Whitaker and Seth Ackerman will represent the Eagles XC team on Saturday.

The girls have one of the tightest packs in KY led by juniors Lizzy Carter and Sarah Whitaker.  Sophomore Laura Dermody led the team at the regional meet last year.  Junior leader Alex Casey as well as newcomers in transfer Mariah Ragsdale and super-frosh Nia Jones and Hannah Ellis are also ready for breakthrough races.

If you are thinking to yourself, I’d love to watch a cross country meet but don’t know how… Fear not!  Emerson Wells, Luke Hoover, and Max Moock made a video “How to Watch a Cross Country Meet”.

Come check out the meet!  If you watch the video please keep in mind that these athletes are much better at running that they are at making videos!
